The Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), an autonomous research organization under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, is a premier national centre for advanced research in geomagnetism and allied geophysical sciences. Headquartered in Navi Mumbai, the Institute carries out cutting-edge research on Earth’s magnetic field, crustal structure, geophysical imaging, paleomagnetism, space weather, and near-Earth space processes.

Key Eligibility Highlights

1. Professor-E (Level 13)

• First-class Master’s degree + PhD in Physics/Geophysics/Mathematics/Geology/Electronics/Computer Science/Atmospheric Science/Space Physics and related fields.

• 10 years of research experience after a Master’s degree.

• Strong publication record; experience in dynamical modelling preferred.

• Upper Age Limit: 45 years.

2. Reader (Level 11)

• First-class Master’s degree OR PhD with 2 years post-doctoral experience.

• Research experience in geomagnetism/allied fields.

• Upper Age Limit: 40 years.

3. Fellow (Level 10) – UR & OBC

UR Post:

• First-class Master’s in Computer Science.

• Preference: PhD or 2–3 years’ research experience.

• Cybersecurity knowledge, penetration testing, forensics, HPC operation, etc. desirable.

OBC Post:

• First-class Master’s in Physics/Geophysics/Maths/Geology/Electronics/Computer Science.

• Preference: PhD or 2–3 years’ research experience.

• Age limit: 38 years (including OBC relaxation).

4. Assistant Director (Official Language) – Level 10

• Master’s in Hindi/English or related combinations as per recruitment rules.

• 3 years’ experience in translation/terminology work OR teaching/research.

• Mode: Deputation/Direct Recruitment.

• Age limit:

  • Deputation: Up to 56 years

  • Direct Recruitment: Up to 35 years

5. Assistant – Level 06

• Graduate with 3 years’ experience as UDC or equivalent.

• Desirable: Law graduates, GOI rules knowledge, proficiency in computers.

• Age limit: 30 years.

6. Stenographer Grade-I – Level 06 (Deputation)

• Analogous post OR 10 years’ service in Level 4/GP 2400.

• Age limit: up to 56 years.

• Desirable: English/Hindi, MS Office, GOI rules.

7. Technical Assistant (Civil) – Level 05

• Diploma in Civil Engineering.

• Desirable: experience with Govt/CPWD projects, CAD, tendering, and billing.

• Age limit: 28 years.

8. Stenographer Grade-II – Level 04

• 12th pass.

• Skill test:

  • Dictation – 80 wpm (10 min)

  • Transcription – 50 min (English) on computer

• Age limit: 27 years.

9. Upper Division Clerk – Level 04 (Ex-Servicemen)

• Bachelor's degree.

• Age relaxation as per the GOI rules.

10. Lower Division Clerk – Level 02

• Matriculation + Typing 30 wpm (English/Hindi) on computer.

• Age limit: 27 years.

• 1 post reserved for PwBD (OH).

Selection Process

• Screening as per the eligibility criteria.

• The institute may conduct a screening test, a written test, a skill test, or an interview as applicable.

• Only shortlisted candidates will be called for further stages.
