India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a fresh notification inviting applications for a wide range of project-based positions under Advertisement No. 02/2025. Eligibility Overview

Qualifications vary by post level. Generally:

• Project Scientist roles require an M.Sc. in relevant subjects (Meteorology, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Sciences, Electronics, Computer Science, Agricultural Meteorology, Remote Sensing etc.) or B.E./B.Tech in related branches, usually with 60% marks.
• Higher-level posts require relevant R&D/field experience, with Ph.D. counting as experience wherever specified.
• Scientific/Administrative Assistants require the minimum degree and skills mentioned in the notification.
• Age limits differ by category and post level and will be calculated as on the closing date.

Emoluments

• Project Scientist Levels (E/III/II/I): Approx. Rs. 56,000 to Rs. 1,23,100 + HRA, depending on seniority.
• Scientific & Admin Assistants: Approx. Rs. 29,200 + HRA.

Roles & Responsibilities

Depending on the post, duties may include:

• Weather forecasting, nowcasting, and climate data analysis
• Numerical modelling and HPC-based applications
• GIS/remote sensing-based research and operational support
• Calibration & maintenance of meteorological instruments
• Satellite data processing, agro-meteorological advisory generation, and research activities across specialized divisions

Selection Process

IMD will shortlist candidates based on eligibility, academic record, experience, and document completeness. Shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview before the Selection Board. No TA/DA is provided for attending the interview. Applicants must upload self-attested documents while applying and produce originals during verification.
