Eligibility — Educational qualification (as on 30.11.2025)

• Generalist: Graduate / Post-graduate in any stream with at least 60% marks in either degree (SC/ST: 55%)

• Hindi Officers: Master’s-level qualifications in Hindi/English or equivalent combinations with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST)

• Result requirement: Final result must have been declared on or before 30 Nov 2025 and original certificates must be produced when required.

Age (as on 30.11.2025)

• Minimum: 21 years

• Maximum: 30 years

• Age relaxations apply for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/ex-servicemen and others as per rules.

Pay & benefits

• Basic pay: Rs. 50,925 with total emoluments approx. Rs. 85,000 per month in metros

• Additional benefits: allowances, NPS pension, gratuity, medical benefits, LTA, company accommodation (subject to rules), etc.

Selection process

1. Phase-I — Preliminary Exam:
   Objective test — 100 marks, 1 hour (English, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude).

2. Phase-II — Main Exam:

   • Generalists: Objective (200 marks) + Descriptive (30 marks: Essay & Précis).

   • Hindi Officers: Objective (200 marks) + Descriptive (50 marks: English & Hindi including translation).

3. Interview:
   Final merit = Main Objective marks (80%) + Interview (20%).
   Medical fitness and document verification follow.

Negative marking: ¼ mark for every wrong answer in objective tests.

• SC / ST / PwBD: Rs. 250

• All others: Rs. 1,000

Application essentials

• Upload: passport photo, signature, left thumb impression, handwritten declaration (as per prescribed format).

• Identity to carry for exam: Aadhaar/PAN/Passport/Driving Licence/Voter ID with matching name.

• Incorrect file sizes/formats may lead to rejection.

Exam centres

• Preliminary and Main exam centres are provided region-wise.

• Candidates must appear at their allotted centre at their own cost.

PwBD / Scribe rules

• Scribe and compensatory time allowed as per Government guidelines.

• Correct documentation and declarations mandatory.

Probation & bond

• Probation: 1 year (extendable). Passing Licentiate Examination (III) is compulsory for confirmation.

• Bond: Mandatory service period of 4 years (including probation); early exit may attract penalties.

• No TA/DA for exams or interviews.

• Canvassing leads to disqualification.
